Environmentalists on both sides of the Atlantic have collaborated to send 50 blue-extinct semi-parakeets from Germany to Brazil the day before yesterday, in an attempt to return these birds to their natural habitat. Parrots on a plane arrived in Pernambuco, according to the Brazilian environmental agency ICM Bio. The agency posted on its Twitter account a picture of Environment Minister Ricardo Salis, holding a cage with one of those birds with a comment: "It has arrived!"

The parrots will be transported to a specially built facility in the city of Curacha in the neighboring state of Bahia, according to the Brazilian Environmental Agency, which is working on this project in cooperation with the German Society for the Preservation of Threatened Parrots.

He announced that the "Spix" parrot became extinct in the wild in 2000, due to its overfishing, the elimination of its natural habitats and its trafficking.
